Hall taps BU’s Richard

The late Charlie Richard, who compiled a 123-28-1 record at Baker University, has been chosen for the College Football Hall of Fame.

Richard, who died in 1994 at the age of 53, coached Baker from 1980-1990 and 1992-1994. His teams won at least a share of the Heart of America Athletic Conference title 11 times and made 10 appearances in the NAIA national playoffs, winning the Sunflower Bowl in 1985.

Richard is one of three coaches and six players from smaller division schools named to the shrine in South Bend, Ind. They join 13 former Division One players announced earlier. Induction ceremonies will be Aug. 13-14.

Glass third at U.S. Open

Sterling Heights, Mich. — Lawrence’s Bob Glass is in third place after Wednesday’s third round of the PBA Senior U.S. Open at Sunnybrook Lanes. Glass has a three-round pinfall total of 3,978, trailing only David Ozio (4,221) and Gary Hiday (4,008). The event continues today with the fourth round.
