Kansas University pitcher Kara Pierce has earned a berth on the second team of the All-Big 12 Conference softball squad as chosen by league coaches.

Pierce, a senior from Mesa, Ariz., was also named to the second team when she was a freshman. Pierce was also named Big 12 freshman of the year in 2001.

Six other Jayhawks earned all-academic honors. Senior Leah Mountain and sophomore Ashley Frazer were first-team picks for achieving at least a 3.2 grade-point average.

Named to the second team, based on at least a 3.0 GPA, were seniors Dani May and Melanie Wallach, and sophomores Destiny Frankenstein and Serena Settlemier.
