Diamondbacks’ Sadler knocked unconscious

Phoenix — Arizona utilityman Donnie Sadler was briefly knocked unconscious during batting practice when a ball struck him in his head before the Diamondbacks’ game against the New York Mets on Wednesday night.

Pitcher Casey Daigle was hitting when the ball cleared the safety net in front of the stretching players, which included Sadler. The ball hit Sadler in the back of the head and he collapsed as players quickly gathered around him.

After a few moments, team trainer Paul Lessard helped Sadler to his feet, and sent him to team physician Roger McCoy for further tests.

Lessard said Sadler had a concussion.

Sadler is batting .200 (3-for-15) in limited action for the Diamondbacks this season.

Blue Jays acquire Menechino from A’s

He began the season on the disabled list with a strained right calf and was optioned Tuesday to Triple-A Sacramento. Menechino made it to the major leagues with the A’s in 1999 and his best season was 2001, when he hit .242 with 12 homers and 60 RBIs.

Glaus has been bothered by the knee recently, and he appeared to tweak it during his final at-bat Tuesday night against the New York Yankees.
