FSHS softball trips O-East

? Free State rebounded from a 10-0 loss to Olathe East on Tuesday and handed the Hawks their first loss of the softball season, 5-1, in the nightcap.

“It was our worst game of the year in the first game,” Free State coach Pam Pine said. “They outhit us. We didn’t answer with our bats. They used the same pitcher in the second game, and we came back and did a good job. They hit the ball hard, but they hit it right at us, and we played really good defense.”

In the nightcap, Free State’s Felicia Freeman allowed nine hits, but East (17-1) pushed across just one run. Freeman fanned two and walked none in a complete-game victory.

Emily Leiker had a two-run single for FSHS in the sixth.

The Firebirds, who finished the regular season 10-10, will learn their regional destination Saturday.
