School backing

To the editor:

According to the news, the Kansas Legislature has received thousands of messages concerning the anti-gay resolution and legislative action concerning this monumental problem.

Consider this. There are thousands of children in Kansas public schools yearning for a good education and a system in Topeka to financially support schools. Why not have every student in the public schools send messages to the Legislature stating they deserve the best possible education we can give them? In order to accomplish this aim, it is critical to have decent and sufficient financial backing.

There are thousands of public school educators who depend on the Legislature, financially as well as personally. Have you not listened to the pleas from districts to the political leaders?

Observe retired members of Kansas Public Employees Retirement System. The Senate, without hesitation, was ready to fund schools by not paying their due requirement to KPERS. This constituency should stand up and be actively counted.

Thousands speak out on a particular subject, which incidentally is already law, and action is almost immediate. Where is the Legislature when our children’s educational future is in jeopardy?

Thousands upon thousands speak out every day concerning the fiscal responsibility of this state to fund schools adequately and absolutely nothing happens.

It’s time to stand up and be counted! If it means demonstrating, so be it! Let’s join hands to educate the children of Kansas. It can’t be done without fiscal responsibility.
