City gets an inch of rain from morning showers

You can put your umbrella away for the rest of the day.

“I think we’ll stay dry,” said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist. “There’s just the flattest of chances (20 percent) that we’ll see a thunderstorm pop up late this evening. The majority of the area will stay dry.”

This morning, Lawrence received 1.11 inches as storms moved through the area.

But the storms have passed, leaving behind a mix of sun and clouds, and little threat of thunderstorms, he said.

“They’re going to be few and far between,” he said.

The high today was expected to reach about 78, dropping overnight to 63 under partly cloudy skies.

Tuesday will remain dry, although there will be periods of cloudy weather Tuesday afternoon, with a high reaching 82, Sayers said. Tuesday night will continue on the dry side, with the low dropping to 64 under partly cloudy skies.

Clouds will be on the increase Wednesday afternoon, with a 30 percent chance for thunderstorms in the evening hours, Sayers said.

“Our best chance for rain and severe weather will be Wednesday night through Thursday morning,” he said.
