Scouting news

Pelathe District Scouts participated in the annual Scouting for Food in April. The Scouts collected more than 9,200 pounds of food, which was distributed to food pantries in Lawrence and Eudora. Participating packs were 3051, 3052, 3055, 3057, 3058, 3064, 3071, 3072, 3077, 3370 and 3462. Participating troops were 52, 55, 59, 60, 61 and 64. Andrew Snyder, Ted Olson, Hunter Vore and Micah Clark, Scouts from Troop 55, helped weigh, sort, box and distribute the food. Adult leaders who helped were Mike McCurdy, Rachel Kaslaitis and Curtis Harris.

  • Cub Scout Pack 3059, chartered to the First Presbyterian Church, participated in the annual Clinton Lake cleanup on April 24. Those who participated were Barkley Edison, Caelan Golledge, Philip Gabler, James Harader-Ellett, Kyler Henricks, Donovan Barr and Nathan Kappelman. Donovan Barr was recognized for finding the most unusual item. Adult leaders who helped were Denise Edison, Chris Golledge, Paul Gabler, Ryan Ellett, Al Henricks and Brenda Kappelman. Members of the Pack also helped with Scouting for Food.

Randy Walter won the Pack 3059 T-shirt design contest during the April meeting. Corbin Robinson earned honorable mention for his design.

  • Cub Scout Pack 3057, chartered to the Lawrence Catholic School PTO, had its monthly meeting April 20 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Brady Murrish received his Parvuli Dei (Child of God) religious medal. Jonathan Fitzgerald, Brady Murrish, Jacob Pfeiffer and Lucas Vogelsang received their Webelos badges and compass points.
  • Cub Scout Pack 3370, chartered to the Deerfield School PTA, participated in the Scouting For Food drive April 24. The Bear and Wolf dens each collected sacks of nonperishable groceries from neighborhood families. The food was taken to the Salvation Army. The Bears collected 17 sacks of groceries. The Wolves consolidated their sacks into large cardboard boxes which weighed a total of 257 pounds. Wolf Scouts who participated were Lucas Werner, Hunter Dedloff, Michael Edman, Alexander Houston, Stephen Fulton, Logan Cherland, Reid Buckingham, John Bennett, Aaron Simon and Nick Pippert. Bear Scouts who participated were Jamie Braden, Tyler Hanson, Dan Jasperson, Jordan Jump and Nathan Porter. The pack’s food drive was coordinated by Clark Fulton.
  • Boy Scout Troop 52, chartered to the First United Methodist Church of Lawrence, had its semiannual election April 27. The following boys will be troop leaders for the next six months: Brandon Mailand, senior patrol leader; Mason McCurdy, assistant senior patrol leader; Todd Roberts, troop guide; David Long, quartermaster; Evan Cloar, scribe; Westley Tedlock, librarian; Steve Wilson, historian; Nick Joseph, chaplain’s aide; Michael Smith, assistant quartermaster; Eric Long, Beaver patrol leader; Stefan Kuczera, Beaver assistant patrol leader; Jarod Brynds, Cow patrol leader; Dominick Reiske, Cow assistant patrol leader; Alek Joyce, Buffalo patrol leader; Brendan Golledge, Buffalo assistant patrol leader; Ben Bartels, Olympians patrol leader; Stuart Gilreath, Olympians assistant patrol leader.
