To the editor:

Larry McGlinn's letter (Public Forum, May 5) expressed his anger and frustration that we in Lawrence "elect Republicans ... who vote like Democrats," demonstrate "against U.S. foreign policy and our leaders," invite "Jocelyn Elders ... to speak at the Lied Center," express "opposition to the Patriot Act," "rank in the top 10 ... in the percentage of gay- or lesbian-led households," and "invite Bill Clinton" to speak at the Dole Institute.

Gee, Larry, thanks for expressing many of the reasons I love it here in Lawrence. Maybe you'd be happier in Manhattan? Lots of purple there! As they say, "one man's trash is another man's treasure."

Doug Burger,
