No. 2 Texas edges Kansas

? Robby Hudson had a home run, and J.P. Howell struck out five batters to lead second-ranked Texas to a 4-2 Big 12 Conference baseball victory Friday over Kansas University.

Texas (44-8 overall, 15-6 Big 12) trailed early after Kansas got a run in the top of the first when Ritchie Price scored on a wild pitch.

The Longhorns tied the score in the bottom of the first when Drew Stubbs scored on a wild pitch, and they took the lead later in the inning when a sacrifice fly sent Hunter Harris home.

Hudson’s homer in the second increased the Texas lead to 3-1. J.D. Reininger also scored in the second on a single by Harris.

Kansas (26-27-1, 2-16) added a run in the sixth on an RBI double by Ryan Baty.

KU freshman RHP Ryotaro Hayakawa retired 14 of 17 batters at one point and shut down the Texas offense. He allowed four hits over 62/3 scoreless innings.

Howell (11-1) got the win after allowing two runs and five hits in seven innings. Huston Street picked up the save by allowing one hit and no runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Ken Livesey (1-3) took the loss.

The series will continue at 2 p.m. today.
