Baccalaureate service
A baccalaureate worship service for Lawrence’s graduating high school seniors, their families and the community will be at 6 p.m. May 13 at Free State High School, 4700 Overland Drive.
The service will include: prayer and Scripture readings by students, hymns and praise songs, recognition of seniors and a talk by Lawrence High School graduate Stephen Vinson, a Kansas University men’s basketball player.
Calvary Temple Assembly of God
“Divine Healing and the Word of God” is the sermon at Sunday worship services at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace.
There will be a special prayer time for healing for anyone having a need. Prayer requests will be taken to the altar at the beginning of the 6:30 p.m. Sunday service.
Women’s ministries will meet at 6:30 p.m. May 11 at the home of Susie Bullock, 2420 Brookside Drive. All women are invited.
Faith Church of the Nazarene
Faith Church of the Nazarene, 1020 Kasold Drive, will feature a Baby Day Celebration during the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service. Families will join in dedicating their children to God, and the sermon will explore faith issues in raising children.
The church will gather at 5:30 p.m. Sunday for supper, with the theme “My Mother’s Favorite Recipes.”
Morning worship and the evening dinner are free and open to the public.
First Presbyterian Church
The congregation will welcome the 2004 confirmation class during Sunday morning worship services at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway.
There will be a special fellowship time from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
The youth choir will offer a concert to the congregation and community at 6 p.m. Sunday.
First United Methodist Church
The next Starting Point class for prospective members of First United Methodist Church will be at noon and 6 p.m. Sunday at the church, 946 Vt.
The classes are part of “Sunday Night Live!” A light meal will be served.
Participants can meet the church’s pastors and ask questions about the church and United Methodists. The class is designed to prepare people for membership in the church and participation in the First in Faith classes.

Immanuel Lutheran Church and University Student Center
More than 500 members and guests of the Kansas District Lutheran Women’s Missionary League met April 23-25 in Wichita.
They adopted mission projects and $68,000 in financial aid to be raised during the next two years.
They also marked Bibles for prisons across Kansas, collected 122 backpacks for a homeless shelter and collected 118 boxes of food for food pantries in Wichita.
These members of Immanuel Lutheran Church and University Student Center, 15th and Iowa streets, attended the event: Lois Llewellyn, Marilyn Greathouse, Jo Lutz, Donna Kuhlman, Darlene Miller and Julie Manweiler. Sherri Rose, member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2700 Lawrence Ave., also attended.
Martha and Mary’s Way
Martha and Mary’s Way, a Lawrence-based interfaith ministry to women, will offer a four-part series, “Opening to the Spirit — Styles of Prayer and Contemplation,” at 7 p.m. May 4, 11, 18 and 25 at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway.
Speakers and topics in the series are, in order: Sister Mary Yerkich, “The Body of Prayer”; the Rev. Emilee Whitehurst, “Praying with Sacred Texts”; Kathy Sylvester, “Spirituality and Music”; Caryn Miriam-Goldberg, “Writing from the Soul.”
The series is free and open to the community.

Plymouth Congregational Church
Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt., will have its 13th annual Plant and Bake Sale from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today.
Items available for purchase include annuals and geraniums, perennials, water/bog plants, house plants, farm dirt by the bag, home-baked goods, shrubs and trees. There will also be an herb corner and a children’s corner.
The chancel choir will perform special music during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday traditional service.
Plymouth welcomes the students of the Community Children’s Center/Head Start program and their families to the 9:30 a.m. Sunday service. Church members will be able to meet students and their families during fellowship hour between the services.
Fifth- and sixth-graders will meet from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the cooking room of the South Church. Plymouth Youth Junior will have an end-of-year party at 4:30 p.m. at Broken Arrow Park.

Redeemer Lutheran Church
The Redeemer youth group of Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2700 Lawrence Ave., will participate — along with Lutheran youth groups from across Douglas County — in helping to landscape some of the newer Habitat for Humanity homes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today on Atherton Court in Lawrence.
The Rev. Gary Rueter, executive director of missions and stewardship for the Kansas District, will conduct the 8:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Sunday worship services.
A quarterly potluck supper will be at noon Sunday. Please bring a covered dish and table service. Potluck will be followed by a mission planning meeting at 1 p.m.
Lutheran Women’s Missionary League will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday for its annual dessert/appetizer/plant share meeting. The “Mother’s Touch — Russia” items to bring for donation are cloth diapers and a small gift for the mothers.

The Peter Swalm Memorial Cookie Bake Off will take place after the men’s breakfast Bible study today at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.
Celebration Ringers and Singers will prepare special music between the 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday services. Graduates will be honored during the 5:30 p.m. service, followed by a youth reception and celebration.
“Time to Grow” compact discs will be available after the 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday services.
Grief Group, which is open to anyone in the community who is grieving, meets Tuesday at the church; topic is “Grief and Anger.”
Time to Grow Prayer Team is preparing a nine-hour vigil for May 8.

Sunday is Birthday and Anniversary Cake Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt. Those who are celebrating a birthday or anniversary during May are invited to bring a cake to church for all to enjoy.
Youth group will serve a light lunch in the parish hall after the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service. Cost: $4 for adults, $2 for children. Price includes soup, salad and dessert.

The combined choirs and orchestra of Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H., and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2211 Inverness Drive, on Sunday will present Cantata 104 by J.S. Bach.
The cantata will be part of the 8:30 a.m. worship service at Trinity Lutheran and the 10:30 a.m. worship service at Good Shepherd.
“Christianity and the Arts: A Creative Exploration” continues from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sundays at Trinity Lutheran.
Faith Inkubators confirmation class meets at 5 p.m. Sunday in the youth room.
The Rev. Manfred Brockman, pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Vladivostock, Russia, and dean of the Far Eastern Circuit of the Lutheran Church in Russia, will visit Trinity Lutheran Wednesday. His presentation on the rebuilding and extending of the Christian Church in Eastern Russia and Siberia begins at 6:30 p.m. in the social room.
Unity Church of Lawrence
Acclaimed pianist, composer and educator Will Tuttle will be the soloist at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday worship services at Unity Church of Lawrence, 900 Madeline Lane.
Tuttle will also present a “Piano Passion” concert at 7 p.m. Sunday, as well as a seminar, “Opening the Intuitive Gate: The Keys to Developing Your Intuition,” at 7 p.m. Monday. These events will be at the church; they are free and open to the public.
The Rev. Darlene Strickland, ministerial candidate, will speak on the topic “The I of the Beholder” at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday services.

West Side Presbyterian Church
“The Medical Benevolence Foundation,” an ongoing project of First Presbyterian Church of Topeka at the Embangweni Hospital in Malawi, Africa, will be the subject of the presentation by the Rev. Jan Nolting-Carter, associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Topeka.
She will address members of West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive, at their annual potluck mission dinner after Sunday morning worship and Holy Communion at 11 a.m.
Her presentation is sponsored by the church’s stewardship committee and the women’s association.
Men’s luncheon group will meet at noon Thursday at Plum Tree Restaurant.
