Bob Garrett, of Great Harvest Bread Co., holds an award and certificate from the Douglas County Child Development Assn. The company was honored in March for assisting the association and child-care providers in Douglas County. The company provides tours to early-childhood programs and lets children make their own bread.

Vicki Wilkerson, of the Lawrence Hallmark Cards plant, holds an award from the Douglas County Child Development Assn. Hallmark was honored in March for assisting the association and child-care providers in Douglas County. The company donates various materials through ECKAN, an Ottawa-based agency that serves the low-income population in area counties.

The Kansas University fraternity recently had a weeklong party to celebrate the life of Pat Murphy, a beer runner for Al Capone, who hid beer in an SAE house to avoid the law. Bauman and Kerr, freshmen from Prairie Village, cooled off during the April 21 celebration.
