KU drops twinbill to Baylor

? Kansas University’s softball squad dropped its Big 12 Conference-opening series against No. 21 Baylor, falling 2-0 and 2-0 to the Bears on Saturday at Getterman Stadium.

The Jayhawks (20-15 overall, 0-2 Big 12) have lost six straight games. The Baylor series was scheduled for one game Saturday and today, but the threat of rainy weather changed the series to a doubleheader.

The Bears jumped to an early lead in the first game, scoring runs in the bottom of the first and second. Baylor pitcher Cristin Vitek (19-3) made the lead stand up, striking out nine and earning her first no-hitter of the year.

KU freshman Kassie Humphreys (9-5) gave up seven hits in the loss.

In the second game, KU stranded three runners. The Bears scored twice on three hits and one KU error in the sixth inning. Senior Kara Pierce (11-7) struck out seven, but allowed nine hits in the loss.

KU will play host Wednesday to No. 20 Nebraska at Arrocha Ballpark.
