Lawrence 299ers’ Duplicate Bridge Club met March 17. Seven pairs competed. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Harry Talley and Don Daugherty finished in first place. Olivier Urruty and Robert Brewer were second. Jan Darting and Janet Williams were third.

Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club met March 19. Nine tables of competitors participated in a stratified game that used a Mitchell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game.

Playing North-South, Sally Taylor and Patt Radford finished first in A. Eldon Herd and Glenna Herd were second in A and first in B. Grant Sutton and Amy Miller placed third in A, second in B and first in C.

Playing the East-West cards, Mona Bell and Madelyn Jenks swept first place in A, B and C. Olivier Urruty and Dan Osman finished second in A, B and C. Carol Ball and Phyllis Brownlee were third in A.

  • Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club met Monday. Ten and a half tables played a stratified game that used a Mitchell movement. Virginia Seaver directed the game.

Sitting North-South, Shirley Reese and Chris Lane finished first in A and B. Julia Brooks and Virginia Seaver placed second in A. Chuck Hedges and Yvonne Hedges were third in A and second in B. Jerry Sloan and Patt Radford took fourth in A. Lynn Hui and Judy Bevan placed first in C.

Competing East-West, Jim Kelley and John Hickey claimed first place in A. Donna Johnson and Paul Heitzman finished second in A. Madelyn Jenks and Phyllis Brownlee took third in A and second in B. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley placed fourth in A, second in B and first in C. Betty Collier and Lois Clark finished fifth in A, third in B and second in C.

  • University Bridge Club announces the winners of its April 20 game. Hosts were Tom and Cathy Waller with Ed and Hazel Stellmacher.

Blue winners were Florence McNicoll, first; John Golden, second; Lois Liebert, third; Al Smith, fourth; and Dale Kring, fifth.

Pink winners were Jean Khatib, first; Ailene Bocquin, second; Dottie Miller, third; Marty Hartman, fourth; and Alice Akins, fifth.

  • The Betty Washington Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution met March 20 at the Watkins Community Museum of History. Rebecca Phipps, director of the museum, spoke about ongoing exhibits and projects. She mentioned that the museum needed men’s clothing for some of the historical displays and volunteers.

The following members attended the Kansas State DAR Conference March 12-13 in Topeka: Polly Reed, Nancy Helmstadter, Mary Lynn Stuart, Mary Burchill, Jody Woodward, Stacy Cope and Gerry Livers. They gave a report about the conference. The chapter plans to participate in several sesquicentennial activities.

The next meeting will be April 17 at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.
