Rockies cruise past Royals, 9-6

? Charles Johnson, Kit Pellow and Mark Sweeney had RBI doubles as the Colorado Rockies defeated the Kansas City Royals, 9-6, Friday.

Colorado starter Scott Elarton was knocked around for five runs in the fourth inning after allowing just two hits in the previous three innings.

Tony Graffanino, Brandon Berger and Desi Relaford each had RBI doubles for the Royals in the fourth. Mike Tonis had an RBI single.

Relaford was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

Elarton, trying to recover the form he had before arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in 2000, had two solid spring starts before Friday’s shelling.

Kansas City starter Darrell May scattered two earned runs and four hits over five innings.

Colorado batted around in the sixth inning, scoring six times off reliever Ryan Bukvich. Pellow was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Shawn Chacon, Colorado’s new closer, pitched one inning, allowing no hits and striking out one.
