Betty L. Spielman

? Services for Betty L. Spielman, 79, Ozawkie, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ozawkie United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Oskaloosa.

Mrs. Spielman died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at Holton Community Hospital.

She was born Nov. 14, 1924, in Elmont, the daughter of Cecil Irving and Elsie Alice (Thompson) Woodard. She graduated from Seaman High School in 1942. She moved from the Meriden area to Ozawkie in 1951.

Mrs. Spielman was a homemaker and helped her husband with dairy farming for 32 years. She had formerly worked as a secretary for Harry Turner Brick Co. and for Metropolitan Insurance Co., both in Topeka. She had also been a clerk at Larrison Grocery Store in Oskaloosa.

She was a 50-year member of the Pleasant View Grange in Ozawkie and had served as a community leader for the Fairview 4-H Club. She was a member of the Lucky Spur Saddle Club in Oskaloosa and attended Ozawkie United Methodist Church.

She married Lewis J. Spielman on May 20, 1944, in Perry. He died Dec. 4, 2000.

Survivors include a son, James Spielman, Ozawkie; two daughters, Sherry L. Seifert, Ozawkie, and Patricia Courtney, Oskaloosa; a sister, Faye Green, Topeka; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
