Museum to raise money for planned expansion

Clinton historical museum committee members are planning a July 17 fund-raiser.

The event will feature a combined barbecue and ice cream social, said Martha Parker, who oversees the museum.

That event and other issues surrounding efforts to expand the museum were discussed Monday night by museum committee members. A campaign to raise about $330,000 is planned to build a 4,800-square-foot addition to the museum. The current museum is in a 16-by-52 foot milkshed from an old farmstead.

Museum supporters also hope to begin cataloging all of its items and exhibits, Parker said. Many of its items are in storage at Lawrence’s Watkins Community Museum of History, which has its own storage problem, Parker said.
