Wichita workers urged to reject contract offer
Wichita ? Calling Boeing Co.’s final offer an “insult” to employees, the union representing technical and professional workers at the company’s Wichita plant has recommended its members reject the contract.
The recommendation from the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace comes in the wake of a contentious decertification vote last month that narrowly left union representation in place.
The union has been working under an extension since its three-year contract expired Feb. 19.
Charles Bofferding, the union’s executive director, said the contract offer was a continuation of the company’s attempt to end union representation at the plant. The union represents about 3,450 workers at the Wichita facility.
“This contract offer is an insult to the Boeing employees in Wichita” said Bob Brewer, the union’s Midwest director.
The union is holding an employee meeting today. Voting packages will be mailed next week.
