Time of KU spring game pushed back to 3 p.m. April 18

Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino announced Wednesday that the Jayhawks’ spring scrimmage would be played at 3 p.m. April 18 at Memorial Stadium.

The scrimmage previously been scheduled for 1 p.m., but KU has added an alumni game to the event. The scrimmage between former Kansas players will start at 1 p.m. with the spring game to follow.

Admission will cost $2, though KU students will get in free with a valid ID. The athletic department will donate all proceeds to the KU marching band.

“I was thrilled with the phone call that I received from coach Mangino when he told us what he wanted to do,” said Jim Hudson, KU’s director of marching bands. “Just to know that he supports us, makes our staff and students feel like we’re part of the team.”

The recent Feather the Flock campaign raised $220,704.50 for the marching band, about $150,000 of which will be used to purchase new uniforms.

Spring drills begin Sunday with a closed practice. The Jayhawks’ second practice will be open to the public. That workout is scheduled for approximately 3:15 p.m. Monday on the practice field behind Anschutz Pavilion.
