Mizzou strikes early in rout of Okie State

? Megan Roney made seven of eight shots for 15 points, and Stretch James added 14 points and nine rebounds, leading Missouri to an easy 75-52 victory Tuesday over Oklahoma State in the first round of the Big 12 Conference tournament.

The Tigers (17-11) led 13-1 in the opening minutes and were up by 24 before halftime. The lead peaked at 29 and was never lower than 20 the rest of the way, a nice change for Missouri after winning its regular-season finale on a free throw by Evan Unrau with 7.9 seconds left.

Unrau, a two-time all-Big 12 honoree, made just one field goal and scored a season-low six points but contributed seven assists, tying her career high.

Next up for Missouri is No. 8 Kansas State today. K-State beat Mizzou, 93-90 in double-overtime, Feb. 22. The Tigers have won four straight since.

Eliz Gomes led Oklahoma State (8-20) with a career-high 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting.

The Cowgirls closed the season on a 10-game losing streak that included a 25-point loss Feb. 14 to Missouri. They avoided that same margin with a buzzer-beating layup by Nina Stone, who scored 17.

The Tigers put this one away early by making 13 of their first 16 shots, including 4-of-5 on three-pointers. Oklahoma State, meanwhile, needed 6:18 before making its first field goal.

Missouri shot 19-of-29 (66 percent) in the first half, but only 12-of-33 (36 percent) in the second half.

No. 19 Oklahoma 60, Texas A&M 47

Dallas — Caton Hill scored 20 points, including a tiebreaking three midway through the second half that helped No. 19 Oklahoma beat Texas A&M.

Missouri's Christelle N'Garsanet, right, is blocked by Oklahoma State's Christian Hood. The Tigers won, 75-52, Tuesday in Dallas.

Hill broke a tie at 29 with a three-pointer, but the Aggies clawed back ahead. Then Hill broke a 35-all tie with another shot from beyond the arc, starting a 12-4 run that put the Sooners (20-8) ahead for good.

A&M (9-17) ended the season losing its last three games, seven of eight and 15 of 17.

Toccara Williams led A&M with 13 points. Tamea Scales and Charlette Castile added 11 points apiece.

Iowa State 63, Nebraska 52

Dallas — Anne O’Neil scored 20 points, including the go-ahead basket midway through the second half, helping Iowa State turn a close game into a victory.

The Cyclones (15-13) trailed 40-38, then used an 11-4 run to cruise to its 12th win in their last 13 meetings against the Huskers (17-11).

Alexa Johnson led Nebraska with 16 points. Katie Morse added 10 points and Keasha Cannon-Johnson had nine points and 10 rebounds.
