J.W. Van Blaricum
Dodge City ? Services for J.W. Van Blaricum, 85, Dodge City, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Dodge City. Inurnment will be later in Scroggins Mausoleum in Dodge City.
Dr. Van Blaricum died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at Manor of the Plains in Dodge City.
He was born Sept. 25, 1918, in Minneola, the son of James W. and Elizabeth Holly (Dean) Van Blaricum.
Dr. Van Blaricum served as captain in the medical corps of the U.S. Army in the European theater in World War II. He was a dentist in Meade for 37 years before he retired in 1983, then moved to Dodge City. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Dodge City, the Kansas Dental Assn., Minneola Masonic Lodge No. 431 and Dodge City Country Club. He served as council member of the board of Santa Fe Trail Boy Scouts and was a school board member for the Meade school district for several years.
He married Frances Nunemacher on Sept. 5, 1943, in Ashland. She survives of Dodge City.
Other survivors include two sons, Kenneth Robert, Pratt, and Galen Ray, Lawrence; two daughters, Betty Anne Grogan, Albuquerque, N.M., and Francia Kay Bird, El Dorado; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
The family suggests memorials to Hospice of the Prairie or Boy Scout Troop No. 165 of Dodge City, sent in care of Swaim Funeral Home, 1901 Sixth Ave., Dodge City 67801.
