Joanne Kay Stone

? Services for Joanne Kay Stone, 62, Overland Park, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church in Overland Park. Cremation is planned.

Mrs. Stone died Sunday, March 7, 2004, in Kansas City, Mo., from complications of lupus.

She was born Dec. 5, 1941, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Gerald C. and Thais Elizabeth (Traxel) Stover. She graduated from Colby High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kansas University.

While at the university, she was Phi Beta Kappa, a Watkins Scholar, a U.G. Mitchell Scholar, vice president of Mortar Board, president of Chi Omega sorority and a member of Pi Mu Epsilon, an honorary math society. She also was selected as one of 10 outstanding seniors by the Jayhawker yearbook staff.

Mrs. Stone was a systems analyst for flight planning at TWA/American Airlines from 1980 until 2002. She was a programmer for IBM and the Shawnee Mission school district from 1963 to 1968 and from 1977 to 1980. She won the TWA Award of Excellence in 1982 and 1997 and received special recognition from Flight Operations in 1996.

She was a member of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church in Overland Park and Chi Omega Alumnae Club, board member of the Kansas City chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America, former member of the Junior League of Kansas City, Mo., and member of Chapter FV of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, where she had served as president and was treasurer at the time of her death.

She married S. Terrence Stone on June 13, 1964, in Colby. He died March 12, 2003.

Survivors include two daughters, Sara Michelle Harrison, San Diego, and Lisa Anne Butler, Olathe; a sister, Carol Louise McWilliams, Shaker Heights, Ohio; a brother, John Conrad Stover, Lawrence; and four grandsons.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Overland Park Chapel.
