Henry Darwin Schwyhart

? Services for Henry Darwin Schwyhart, 76, Winfield, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Udall Cemetery.

Mr. Schwyhart died Monday, March 8, 2004, at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.

He was born May 18, 1927, in Udall, the son of Harrison and Veva (Beaver) Schwyhart. He attended public schools in Udall and graduated from Udall High School in 1945.

Mr. Schwyhart enlisted in the U.S. Navy after graduation and served in the South Pacific with the SeaBees until after World War II. He then returned to Cowley County, where he attended Southwestern College. He served with the Cowley County Civil Defense Team and was commander of the Winfield unit of Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the American Legion Post in Oxford. He was a sheet metal worker with Fralic Sheet Metal Co., then worked at Winfield State Hospital until he retired.

He married Marilyn Rice on June 6, 1948. She died in 1999.

Survivors include five sons, Jay, Minneapolis, Minn., Bruce and Russell, both of Winfield, and Vance and Del, both of Lawrence; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield or American Cancer Society, sent in care of CornerBank, 900 Main St., Winfield 67156.
