Red Raiders snap skid, trip Tigers

? Texas Tech coach Bob Knight won’t predict whether his team’s win over Missouri, the 20th of the season, is crucial to the Red Raiders getting into the NCAA Tournament.

Tech snapped a two-game losing streak Wednesday night, beating the Tigers, 87-76, in a victory fueled by Andre Emmett’s 28 points.

“I’ve never thought that we were ever in the NCAA Tournament until I saw the pairings as long as I’ve coached,” Knight said.

Tech has won at least 20 games a season for three straight years, all under Knight. For the 63-year-old coach, it is his eighth straight season of 20 or more wins.

Trailing Missouri by three at the half, the Red Raiders came out and used a 19-6 run to take a 60-50 lead with 13:41 remaining. Ronald Ross scored eight of the 19 points, all layups.

Tech (20-9, 8-7 Big 12 Conference) built its largest lead at 72-56 when Emmett stole a Tigers inbounds pass and put in a layup and a free throw with 10:37 left.

Tech scored 31 points in less than 10 minutes in the second half, missing on only one of 17 possessions. The Red Raiders failed to score on the next five possessions, however, and the Tigers used an 18-9 run to whittle the lead to 78-74 on a layup by Jason Conley that was ruled good because of a goal-tending call with 3:07 remaining.

Missouri (15-11, 9-6) pulled no closer.

Kansas State 64, Baylor 62

Waco, Texas — Jeremiah Massey scored 21 points, and Cartier Martin added 14 as Kansas State held off a furious Baylor comeback. The Wildcats (13-13, 5-10) led 56-37 midway through the second half. But Baylor (8-20, 3-12) mounted a 12-1 run ending with a Corey Herring layup to cut the lead to single digits at 57-49 with just less than seven minutes left to play. Terrance Thomas paced Baylor’s scoring with 14 points.

ISU 83, Colorado 77

Ames, Iowa — Curtis Stinson scored 19 points and led a rally that brought Iowa State from 13 down in the second half to a victory over Colorado (17-9, 9-6). Jackson Vroman also scored 19 for Iowa State (16-10, 7-8) and made a big play in the final minute by drawing a charging foul.

Oklahoma 86, A&M 60

Norman, Okla. — De’Angelo Alexander scored 17 points, and freshman Drew Lavender had 14 points and eight assists to help Oklahoma break its four-game losing streak. Jaison Williams, Jason Detrick and Johnnie Gilbert each had 12 points for the Sooners, who opened the game with a 21-2 run. Oklahoma (17-9, 7-8) snapped its second four-game skid of the season. The Aggies (7-19, 0-15) missed 10 of their first 11 shots and committed seven turnovers in the first 9 minutes, falling behind by 19 points.
