K.C., Woods agree on pact

Pro Bowl safety to sign for six years

? Pro Bowl safety Jerome Woods has agreed to a six-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, the team said Wednesday.

Woods, who missed the entire 2002 season because of a broken leg, was a key figure for the Chiefs last year during their 13-3 regular season. He was expected to agree to terms more than a week ago, but a change in agents slowed negotiations.

Terms of the contract were not announced.

A first-round draft pick in 1996, Woods was one of only six NFL players to return two interceptions for touchdowns in 2003.

“It’s not often in today’s NFL that a player has the opportunity to play his entire career with the team that drafted him,” Chiefs president Carl Peterson said. “That was very important to Jerome Woods. In his signing of a new contract, our former No. 1 draft choice will have the chance to do exactly that.”

Woods, 6-foot-2, 210 pounds, was named to his first Pro Bowl last year after logging 99 tackles and being involved in seven turnovers.
