Moffet confirmed to serve on KCC

? Michael Moffet of Lawrence was confirmed today to serve on the Kansas Corporation Commission.

Moffet, 53, had been a consultant for SBC Communications Inc. After his appointment last week by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, some raised concerns about his ability to be impartial on telecommunications issues that would come before the KCC.

But Moffet told the Senate Confirmation Oversight Committee he would strive for fairness.

“Whatever law or regulation we are talking about, I’m sure we could agree that our goal should be to strike a balance between what is fair to regulated industries, ratepayers and consumers alike, with the protection of consumers foremost in the process,” he said.

The committee approved his appointment 4-0 with one senator not voting.

Moffet was scheduled to be sworn into office later today. The KCC also regulates energy and trucking.
