Kansas City, Mo. ? The Kansas City Royals are not just winless since trading Carlos Beltran. They’re being embarrassed.

David Newhan had three hits, including a two-run homer, and the Baltimore Orioles snapped a seven-game road losing streak Monday night with a 10-1 victory over the Royals.

The loss was the fifth straight for the preseason AL Central favorites, who are 0-4 since Beltran went to Houston in a three-team deal and are hitting just 3-for-39 with runners in scoring position.

“Whenever you lose your best player, of course everybody is going to be thinking about it,” manager Tony Pena said. “But we must put it aside. Carlos Beltran does not play for Kansas City any more.”

The Royals have lost by seven or more runs in three of their last five games.

“Nothing is working for us,” first baseman Mike Sweeney said. “We’re grinding. But it’s metal-on-metal right now. We’re working hard. We’re trying. The performance and results aren’t there.”

Brian Roberts, Miguel Tejada and Javy Lopez each drove in two runs for the Orioles.

Newhan also singled twice for only the second three-hit game of his career. He also set a career high with three runs scored.

“It’s getting to the point where I expect him to get a hit every time up,” Baltimore manager Lee Mazzilli said.

Newhan has hit safely in all 10 games he has appeared in since signing with Baltimore on June 18.

“I wish it was that easy,” Newhan said.

Rookie left-hander Erik Bedard (3-2) pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings for the Orioles, who won for just the second time in 11 road games. He gave up five hits, struck out three and walked one.

The Royals dropped to a season-low 17 games under .500, the worst in the league.

“It could be a long summer if we do not turn it around,” Pena said.

Tejada had a sacrifice fly in the first and an RBI single in the second, each time scoring Roberts.

Newhan hit Darrell May’s first pitch for a two-run homer in the fifth, giving the Orioles a 4-0 lead.

May (5-9) lost for the first time in four decisions, allowing seven runs and eight hits in six-plus innings.

Roberts’ two-run double keyed a four-run seventh inning for the Orioles, who had won only three of 14 games overall. Jay Gibbons and Lopez added RBI singles to make it 8-0.

The Royals got a run in the eighth when Byron Gettis doubled and scored on a groundout by David DeJesus.

The Orioles added two runs in the ninth on Lopez’s bases-loaded walk and Larry Bigbie’s RBI single.

Notes: Gettis’ single in the fifth snapped an 0-for-13 streak, while Ken Harvey’s second-inning double broke an 0-for-11 skid. … The Royals obtained infielder-outfielder Jose Bautista on Monday from Tampa Bay for cash.
