Bailey services

Mass of Christian Burial for Delbert Max Bailey, 85, Tempe, Ariz., will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Bailey died Monday, June 21, 2004, at Banner Desert Samaritan Medical Center in Mesa, Ariz.

He was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Lawrence, the son of Arthur Reed and Mary Magdalene Rothberger Bailey.

Mr. Bailey served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. He was a decorated World War II veteran and received the Navy Marine Corps Medal for Heroism. He worked at Haskell Indian Nations University for 18 years before he retired in 1980. He was a former member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a current member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Tempe.

He married Mary L. Connett on April 20, 1946, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Patricia Buck, Dunedin, Fla., Carolyn Allen, Lawrence, and Deborah Cole, Chandler, Ariz.; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A grandson died earlier.

Family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, attention to the Rev. John M. Bonavitacola, sent in care of the mortuary.
