Texas advances to finals

Omaha, Neb. — Texas will be playing for its second national title in three years this weekend when the top-seeded Longhorns (58-13) meet either South Carolina or Cal State Fullerton in the best-of-three series that starts Saturday at the College World Series.

Baker coach honored

Former Baker University coach Charlie Richard will be among 22 inductees in The College Football Hall of Fame Aug. 13-14 in South Bend, Ind.

Richard led Baker to a record of 123-28-1 and an NAIA-best winning percentage of .813. In 14 seasons, he guided the Wildcats to at least a share of 11 Heart of America Athletic Conference titles and 10 NAIA playoff appearances.

Richard, who died in 1994, will be represented in South Bend by his family.
