Astros’ Pettitte sharp in rehabilitation outing

“I really felt good, my arm was loose and I got into a rhythm over the last two innings,” Pettitte said.

He allowed one hit and one walk while striking out five. The left-hander hit 90 mph on his fastball 10 times and 91 mph once, and he showed sharp control.

Cards call outfielder to replace Edmonds

St. Louis — Jim Edmonds’ groin injury on Wednesday prompted the St. Louis Cardinals to recall outfielder So Taguchi from Triple-A Memphis. And Edmonds’ injury, coupled with Mike Matheny’s rib-cage injury a month ago and the resulting emergence of rookie Yadier Molina, ended up making Cody McKay the odd man out.

Taguchi was in the lineup Wednesday night playing center field.
