Township department to have open house

? The Eudora Township Fire Department will conduct its second annual open house and safety fair Saturday.

Fire, ambulance and police vehicles and equipment will be on display from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fire station, 310 W. 20th St., which is also County Road North 1300. Air ambulance helicopters will be on display after 10 a.m.

A main attraction from last year’s event, a search-and-rescue maze for children and adults, will return. The maze is in a temporary building that emits nontoxic smoke. It can be used to teach children how to escape a house fire by staying low to the floor, said Mary Dahn, one of the organizers of the event.

“The kids just absolutely loved it last year,” Dahn said. “We had one kid who didn’t want to come out.”

Firefighters also will put on demonstrations. Free food will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free.
