Broken pipe closes KU Medical Center administration building

Murphy Hall — the main administrative building for the KU Medical Center — is closed today because of a burst waterpipe that spread damage throughout much of the building, officials said.

The hot-water pipe broke early Sunday morning on the fourth floor of the five-story building, Dennis McCullough, a spokesman for KU Med said.

The water also flooded administrative offices on the third, second and first floors.

A rehabilitation clinic in the basement was also flooded and had to be relocated.

The building will be shut down at least until Thursday for cleaning and repair, McCullough said.
