Scouting news

Cub Scouts from Pack 3370, chartered to the Deerfield School PTA, participated in the 2004 annual Pelathe District Cub Scout Day Camp June 7-11 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Those who participated were Callan Anderson, John Bennett, Blair Bracciano, Jamie Braden, Reid Buckingham, Logan Cherland, Hunter Dedloff, Logan Dedloff, Michael Edman, Stephen Fulton, Alex Houston, Brendan Phillips, Tyler Robbins, Mark Stevens, and Matthew Thompson. Nicolette Bennett served as the Day Camp director. Adult leaders who participated were Peter Houston, Cammie Braden, Bill Robbins, Ray Buckingham, Ryan Cherland, Annie Stevens, Chris Phillips, Don Edman, Clark Fulton, Margaret Townsend, Wayne Dedloff, Michael Thompson and Andy Bracciano.

Pack 3370 placed third out of 25 dens in the home-base decorating competition, and Bear Scout Alex Houston placed third in the poster coloring contest.

  • Volunteers are needed to help with the Douglas County Girl Scout Summer Day Camp, which will be June 21-15 at Camp Hidden Valley in Lawrence.

Volunteers are needed for such tasks as directing traffic in the parking lot, assembling materials for crafts and snacks and helping with first aid. To volunteer or for more information, call Rebecca Gant at 832-8215.

  • Cub Scout Pack 3057, chartered to the Lawrence Catholic School PTO, had a pizza party and meeting on May 18 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Phillip Commons received his Light of Christ Medal. Bear badges and arrow points were presented to Nathan Evers, Kolbe Murray and Nathan Shobe. Wolf badges, arrow points and the Cub Scout World Conservation Award were presented to Phillip Commons, Thomas Peterson, Clayton Pfeifer and Jakob Walter. Tiger Badges were presented to August Murphy-Beach, Andrew Chavez, Eric Glogau, Maxwell Munson, Jack Powell, Elias Schneck and Kyle Vogelsang.

On June 5, the Pack had a summer activity at Holcomb Park to earn the Badminton belt loop. Cubs who attended were Jonathan Fitzgerald, Jacob Pfeifer, Luke Fitzgerald, Clayton Pfeifer, Jakob Walter, Maxwell Munson, Jack Powell, Eric Glogau, Elias Schneck, August Murphy-Beach, Sam Witte and Ben Witte. Adult leaders and other family members who participated: Brian Walter, Mike Fitzgerald, John Pfeifer, Nora Murphy, Brian Powell, Michelle Powell, Miranda Powell, Cheryl Witte, Jean Pfeifer, Ben Munson, Eric Munson, Karen Schneck, Marlon Schneck, Lee Glogau, Ryan Glogau, Reed Pfeifer and Hannah Walter.

  • Boy Scout Troop 55, chartered to the Westside Presbyterian Church, had its annual family campout June 4-6 at Clinton State Park.

The families and Scouts camped out at Clinton Lake's Elm Campground. They played horseshoes, volleyball and made sand mountains. They enjoyed a dinner of smoked turkey and ham as well as side dishes. The Scouts then provided dutch-oven desserts. The event ended with swimming at Bloomington Beach.

Scouts who participated were Trey Anderson, James Auld, Tyler Baker, Drew Braden, Patrick Carttar, Steven Dalager, Josh Gore, Nick Haley, Cameron Howard, Steven Howe, Tyler Hunsaker, Ludwig Johanning, Ulrich Johanning, Wolfgang Johanning, Elliott Johnson, David Lawrence, Mitchell McCune, James Murphy, Alan O'Neal, Justin Robertson, Joseph Vannicola, Grady Walker and Jeremy Woodhead.

  • Scouts from Pack 3071, sponsored by Prairie Park School, participated in Cub Scout Summer Day Camp June 7-11 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Those who attended: Andrew Dominguez, Matthew Dominguez, William Harnar, Daniel Wrigley, Hunter Shawley, Isaac Hill, Jason Castillo and Ryan McNiven, Den 18 Bears; Jordan Cuttell, Branden Baston, Andrew McNish, Adam Hadiji, Cody Bruns, Tyler Roste, Ramello Manley, James Hall, Gavin Fischer, Mason Jupe and Antoine Beckum, Den 20 Webelos; Eric Peterson, Trenton Shambaugh, Derrick Rafferty, Andrew Stussie, Donald Harris, Lucas Cooper, Mitchell Damron, Scott Lamb, Chase Reiling, Faraji Kendagor, Kagen Fell and Tyler Kottman, Den 18 Webelos II.

  • Tyler Thomas, of Boy Scout Troop 62, will work at Camp Naish from June 7-Aug. 14 at the Nature Lodge. Thomas is the assistant senior patrol leader for his troop as well as the Chapter 2 Chief in the Order of the Order.

John Armstrong, of Troop 59, will be on the staff at Philmont Scout Ranch, near Cimarron, N.M. Philmont is a high-adventure camp for the Boys Scouts of America. John received his Eagle rank within the last year.
