To the editor:

I guess some people forget, or want others to forget, that it was the Reagan administration that sold hundreds of millions of dollars worth of weapons to Iran not long after the bombings in Beirut that killed hundreds of Marines. Former President Reagan used the money to fund the Contras in a war of terrorism against Nicaraguan civilians. He was complicit along with Oliver North in torturing and killing thousands of innocent Nicaraguans. Does no one remember the Iran-Contra hearings? Reagan should have been impeached, rather than deified.

Now we have another Republican president who lies to Congress and the American people to justify a war that kills our young men and women and innocent Iraqi civilians and lines the pockets of the vice president’s former business partners.

I suppose Republicans will want to canonize him, too.
