Chance of thunderstorms tonight

Crank up your air conditioner — the forecast calls for hot and humid weather today, with a chance of a thunderstorm later tonight.

“It is going to be a steamy one — 91 degrees for the afternoon high,” said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

A storm system that came in from the southwest about 7 a.m., broke up as it came to the Lawrence area, leaving behind only a few raindrops in southwest Lawrence. Most of the rain was in Baldwin and southern parts of Douglas County, Sayers said.

Skies will be partly cloudy for most of the day, with the high reaching 83 by noon, climbing to the 90s in the afternoon.

Sayers said there is a 20 percent chance for isolated thunderstorms in the Lawrence area tonight.

“If one fires up this evening, it has a chance to be severe,” he said.

However, most of the widespread thunderstorms will be to the north of Lawrence, he said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 66, with the high climbing to 90 and another chance for late evening storms, he said.

Thunderstorms are also expected to linger around through Sunday morning. Sunday’s morning low will be 70, with the high climbing to 84
