More rain expected today

Some much-needed rain fell overnight in Lawrence and more wet weather is expected today, said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist.

“We are not done as far as the old rain bucket goes,” Sayers said. “Grab that rain jacket and grab that umbrella. … For today, expect off-and-on showers. The majority of that will come in the afternoon and evening hours.”

Lawrence Municipal airport reported that 0.14 of an inch of rain fell between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. The National Weather Service is predicting a 70-percent chance of more rain today.

Sayers said the early morning rainfall has moved to the northeast. Southeast Kansas was getting some rain this morning, which will move into the Lawrence area by mid morning, he said. The storms aren’t expected to bring severe weather.

“We’ll just see some good old-fashioned rainfall and some help for those lawns,” Sayers said. Winds will be from the south, between 10 and 15 mph. The high today will be 79.

Sayers said the off-and-on showers will continue until early Thursday morning.

Thursday’s morning low will be 69, with the high climbing to 82 under cloudy skies.
Winds will be 10 to 20 mph. The chance for rain drops to 20 percent Thursday and Thursday night.

Friday morning, the sun returns, with the low starting at 70 and climbing to 91 by Friday afternoon, he said.

More storms are expected Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
