Warriors use heads in 27-16 victory over Giants

Nobody needed to tell the Warriors to get their heads in the game Thursday during a Douglas County Amateur Baseball Association 9-U game at the Youth Sports Inc. fields.

Just ask Warriors C.J. Stuever and Connor Daniels.

While pitching in the fifth inning, a batted ball hit Stuever in what appeared to be the bill of his hat. After Stuever went down, Kevin Stuever, C.J.’s coach and father, went out to the mound.

C.J. verified the ball had hit him in the head. But he shook off the shot and batted in the Warriors’ 10-run sixth inning — which included teammate Daniels getting hit by a pitch in the helmet.

“We’re more nervous than the kids are about getting hit,” said Craig Friedrichsen.

Friedrichsen’s son, Patrick, played in the Lawrence Parks and Recreation baseball league last year, but decided to play in the DCABA 9-U league for the Warriors this summer.

The second-place Warriors improved to 7-1 with the 27-16 defeat of the third-place Giants (6-4).

Warriors third baseman Chris Gillespie scored three runs with a home run, a single and a double. The Giant’s Rigby McClure scored three of his team’s runs with a double and two stolen bases.
