Calvary Temple Assembly of God

A new group of Royal Rangers will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Calvary Temple Assembly of God, 606 W. 29th St. Terrace.

Royal Rangers are for boys ages 6-14. Leaders will be Mike Wisdom, Thomas Stuart Jr. and Jason Sutton. Rangers will learn about the Bible and have other activities.

Guest speaker Sunday morning and evening is Lloyd Houk from Moran.

Clinton Parkway Assembly of God

The Rev. Rick Burwick will lead the 7 p.m. Wednesday Bible study, “Building Bridges,” at Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway.

“Fun in the Son” for children in first grade through sixth grade is from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at the church. Kathy Locke leads this activity.

“Wild at Heart” for men will meet at 8 a.m. June 12 at Perkins Restaurant, 1711 W. 23rd St., and then go to Cedar Hill Gun Club, 918 E. 1650 Road, for trapshooting at 10 a.m.

Steve and Kathy Locke will lead the children in the “God’s Kingdom” series at 10:30 a.m. Sundays.

First Baptist Church

First Baptist Church, 1330 Kasold Drive, will have vacation Bible school from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Theme is “God’s All-Star Champions.” Mission project is the Bethel Neighborhood Center. Activities will include songs, crafts, games, Bible stories and snacks.

All Lawrence children age 2 through sixth grade are welcome.

First Regular Baptist Church

First Regular Baptist Church, 1646 Vt., will have its annual Choir Day at 11 a.m. June 13.

Special guest at the 11 a.m. service will be the Rev. Rodney C. Bachus, associate minister and minister of music at St. Mark Baptist Church of Memphis, Tenn.

Special guest at the 3:30 p.m. service is the Rev. Ricky D. Turner and the Oak Ridge Baptist Church Choir of Kansas City, Kan.

Gwendolyn Shepard is minister of music at First Regular Baptist Church, Gloria Johnson is chairperson for the annual Choir Day, and the Rev. Reginald E. Bachus is pastor.

First United Methodist Church

United Methodist Women of First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., will have a Connection Meeting at 10 a.m. June 12 in the meeting room adjacent to the chapel at Presbyterian Manor.

This will be the annual brunch honoring deceased members from the past year. In addition to the memorial ceremony, the program topic is “135 years of Women in Mission,” by Roberta Gingerich.

Worship on Wednesdays is from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays at on the southwest corner of U.S. Highway 40 and Kansas Highway 10. Bring bug spray and an outdoor chair.

Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship

Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship, 700 Wakarusa Drive, will have Mission Focus Sunday this weekend, with the theme “Change Lawrence, Change the World.”

Meetings will be at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Taylor speaking, and at 2:30 p.m. with Ted Sauer and other local and regional missionaries speaking.

There will be information booths set up and a special drawing in the afternoon.

A luncheon for international students will follow the morning service Sunday. Luncheon will be at the home of Walt and Ann Kihm, 315 Dakota St. All international students are welcome.

Ninth Street Baptist Church

Ninth Street Baptist Church, 847 Ohio, will have vacation Bible school — “Jesus to the Rescue” — from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m.

Redeemer Lutheran Church

Summer worship hours begin Sunday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2700 Lawrence Ave.

The single worship service begins at 9 a.m. Bible class and Sunday school start at 10:45 a.m. Summer hours will run through Sept. 5.

Redeemer’s seminary student, Mike Ada, will preach Sunday. He and his family will start his vicarage in July in Richland, Wash.

Children will receive instruction in the Christian faith at Redeemer’s vacation Bible school from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 19-23. They will also enjoy games, crafts and snacks.

The 23rd annual Mexican Fiesta will be from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. June 25-26 on the church grounds. Admission is free.

Event will feature entertainment, authentic Mexican food, corn dogs, nachos, refreshments and T-shirts. There will be a moonwalk for children both nights and carnival games Saturday night.

Friday’s entertainment will feature the St. John children’s dances and La Manana Band. Saturday’s events will feature Mariachi Mexico, St. John children’s dances and the Fiesta Band.

St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church

The Rev. Darrel Proffitt begins his four-part sermon series, “Jesus Loves Me This I know,” at the 7:45 a.m., 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Sunday services at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

Trinity Episcopal Church

Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt., will celebrate its Pastoral Feast Day with special prayers during both Sunday services. The congregation also will bid farewell to Zane Wilemon, youth director, who leaves June 12 for a mission trip to Kenya.

Celebration continues after the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service with an all-parish potluck picnic on the church lawn. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided. Participants are asked to bring a salad, side dish or dessert to share.

All grandmothers are welcome to attend the second meeting of the grandmothers group at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the home of Fifi Paden.

Trinity Lutheran Church

Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H., will mark “Trinity Sunday” this weekend with an all-church picnic.

Main course will be prepared by Two Guys and a Grill, with refreshments and side dishes brought by parishioners. There will be entertainment and games for children. The event is a fund-raiser for the youth group’s mission trip to Michigan later this month.

New members of the church council will be installed at worship services Sunday. All members of the council will be recognized.

Monthly sewing and workday will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. A potluck lunch will be served at noon. Women will work on various quilting projects while men do repair and maintenance jobs around the church.

Unity Church of Lawrence

Unity Church of Lawrence, 900 Madeline Lane, will have 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday worship services. The Unity summer picnic will begin after the 11 a.m. service in Centennial Park.

Unity Church will offer “Embarking on the Journey: A Writer’s/Storyteller’s Workshop,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Walt Larson will lead the event.

After the workshop, there will be an opportunity to form an ongoing writer’s group.

The Rev. Bill Stype will fill the pulpit Sunday at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive. The sacrament of Holy Communion will be observed at the 11 a.m. service.
