Beautiful day ahead

If you can find some time to get outdoors today, you won’t regret it — low humidity and temperatures in the upper 70s are expected throughout the Lawrence area.

“If there was a week to take off, this is it,” said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist. “You’ll see plenty of sunshine today and our beautiful weather will continue. . . . Keep those windows open throughout the day — and the night, as well. . . . This is about as nice as it gets.”

The temperatures this morning was in the upper 50s, with partly cloudy skies and light winds. The high today is expected to climb to 76, under partly cloudy skies and northwest winds 10 to 15 mph.

Although the weather radar was showing some light rain in the area this morning, Sayers said the dry air was evaporating any rain that was falling before it reached the ground.

“We just don’t have enough water vapor to work with,” he said. The wispy streaks of vapor hanging from the bottoms of the clouds is called virga, he said.

Tonight’s temperatures will drop off to a low near 54 by early Thursday morning. Thursday will be partly cloudy with a high near 75 and east winds 5 to 10 mph.

Rain chances start to increase as we move into the weekend, Sayers said.

There’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday evening, with partly cloudy skies and a high near 80. The rain possibilities increase to 40 percent by Saturday afternoon. Rain is also expected Sunday morning.

The mild temperatures continue over the weeknd, with the highs hitting 80 on Friday, 81 on Saturday and 80 on Sunday. The lows for the weekend will be mild: Friday morning, 59; Saturday morning, 62, and Sunday morning 61.
