Clinton Parkway Assembly of God

The "God's Kids" Children's Ministry of Clinton Parkway Assembly of God, 3200 Clinton Parkway, will minister during the 9 a.m. Sunday worship service. Title of the musical: "Discovery at Camp Wisen-Up."

Women's ministry will sponsor its first annual Backpack Outreach at 8 a.m. Aug. 7 at the church. Backpacks filled with school supplies will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Children's ministry will be host to a special event -- serving a 30-foot-long banana split -- Aug. 8. The event is for those attending children's church at 9 a.m.

Corpus Christi Catholic Church

An ice-cream social will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St., for those who are interested in becoming Catholic or learning more about the Catholic faith. Weekly sessions will meet from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays.

First Christian Church

Eddy Bazin, of Preaching Christ to the Multitudes Ministry, will be at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday services at First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

Bazin pastors a church in Port au Prince, Haiti, and has established a school there.

An appreciation reception will be given for Ben Harris and Cindi Birney from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday in the church's fellowship hall. Pancakes will be served, along with juice and coffee.

The Rev. Randy Beeman and Linda Beeman will lead premarital counseling sessions from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 8, Aug. 22 and Sept. 19 in Room 317. Cost is a $20 donation per person for class materials. Course topics are: God's plan for my life/communications skills; family/finance; and sexual intimacy/ceremony options.

First United Methodist Church

First United Methodist Church, 925 Vt., welcomes Sean Atchley as the congregation's full-time youth director.

He currently works at Camp Chippewa in Ottawa. He will begin work at the church Aug. 15, while continuing to live in Ottawa with his wife, Beth.

Indian Hills Church of God

Indian Hills Church of God, Louisiana Street and 29th St. Terrace, will have a fellowship dinner after the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship celebration.

Lawrence Wesleyan Church

"SonGames 2004" is the theme for this year's vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday at Lawrence Wesleyan Church, 3705 Clinton Parkway.

Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship

Walt and Ann Kihm, members of Mustard Seed Christian Fellowship, 700 Wakarusa Drive, will be host to a potluck lunch for international students at noon at their home, 315 Dakota.

An introductory potluck for the Alpha course will be at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at the church. Classes will start Sept. 7. No fee is required to attend the potluck or classes.

Plymouth Congregational Church

Communion will be served at the 9:30 a.m. traditional and 11:15 a.m. contemporary Sunday worship services at Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.

Sharon O'Connell Campbell will perform "Beloved, Let Us Love" by Richard Proulx and "O Rest in the Lord" from Felix Mendelssohn's "Elijah" during the 9:30 a.m. service.

St. Margaret's Episcopal Church

Children will present a special musical at the 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Sunday services at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 5700 W. Sixth St.

Youth will have their kickoff event, "Oh Me, Oh My, O' Nehemiah," at the 5:30 p.m. Sunday service.

Trinity Episcopal Church

The Rev. Sam Mason, assistant to the rector, will preach and celebrate at both Sunday worship services at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt.

Guest soloist for the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service will be Alfred J. Lata. He will sing Psalm 8 by Isadore Freed.

St. Petca's Guild meets at 7 p.m. Monday in the church library. Anyone who would like to learn needlework or could use some help brushing up on knitting, crocheting or embroidery skills is welcome to join the group.

All August parish birthdays and anniversaries will be celebrated with receptions in the parish hall after Sunday services. If you have a birthday or anniversary during August, please bring a cake along for all to enjoy.

The Rev. John Nixon will celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, 1027 Vt.

Trinity Lutheran Church

A school-supply collection drive for children who attend New York School continues through Aug. 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H. The church's social concerns group is leading the effort.

A collection box is available in the church narthex. Monetary donations are also accepted, and the group will purchase supplies for the children.

Items for a rummage sale are also being collected at the church. The sale will be Aug. 13-14 in the fellowship hall and will benefit various children's projects in and outside the church.

Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence

The Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road, will have a fellowship walk and brunch starting at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 15 at the Kansas River bridges.

Unity Church of Lawrence

Unity Church of Lawrence, 900 Madeline Lane, will welcome the congregation's new pastor, the Rev. Darlene Strickland, at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday services.

After the 11 a.m. service, there will be a potluck picnic at Centennial Park to celebrate Strickland's arrival. Participants are asked to bring food to share and table service for their families. Water and tea will be provided.

West Side Presbyterian Church

The sacrament of Holy Communion will be observed Sunday at West Side Presbyterian Church, 1024 Kasold Drive.

The Rev. Bill Woodard will begin his ministry at the church with this service. The title of his message is "Destination Sickness."

Children's choir will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the bell choir will rehearse at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Monthly men's lunch is at noon Thursday at Plum Tree Restaurant, 2620 Iowa.
