Cloudy skies expected today

Lawrence’s skies will go through quite a few changes over the course of the day, according to Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist — clouds, then clearing, then clouds again.

“We have off and on clouds today,” she said.

A band of thunderstorms that was moving east over central Kansas this morning was headed toward Lawrence, Schack said. However, Schack said the band of showers was dying down as it made its way east.

Another slight chance for isolated thunderstorms begins in the evening and lasts overnight, she said.

Today’s cloud cover will keep the temperature down, with the high reaching only 82. That’s well below the average high for this date of 91, Schack said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 54, climbing to a high of 88. Sunday’s low will be 67, with the high reaching 91.

But the relatively cool weather is about to end — Lawrence will start seeing temperatures in the upper-90s next week, she said.

“It’s going to start to feel like summer,” Schack said.
