Beautiful day expected

Tired of all the rain we’ve had this month? If you like blue skies, just step outside.

“There’s not a cloud to be found,” Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist said this morning. “We are seeing those clear skies around the region.”

This morning’s temperatures were in the mid 60s, but were expected to climb into the 80s today with a few clouds moving in and southerly winds between 5 and 15 mph. Today’s high was expected to reach 83. Schack said this was the seventh day in a row where the temperatures were cooler than normal, which is about 91 degrees for the high.

Tonight’s skies will be mostly clear, with the temperature dropping down to 63 degrees by early Wednesday morning, Schack said.

Wednesday’s temperature will climb to a high of 85, with south winds between 5 and 15 mph.

A cold front will come through Wednesday night, bringing a chance of thunderstorms. The National Weather Service says there is a 20 percent chance for rain after 1 p.m. Wednesday and a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday night.

Thursday morning, the chance for rain continues, Schack said. The National Weather Service predicts a 50 percent chance for rain on Thursday and Thursday night. Thursday’s morning low will be 65, with the high reaching 81.

So far, this is the third wettest July in the last 65 years, Schack said. Lawrence has had 9.64 inches of rain so far this month. The wettest Julys in the record book were July 1993, when more than 18.3 inches fell and in July 1951, when more than 10.37 inches was recorded, she said.
