City ties low temperature record

Late July is usually a time for setting high temperature records. But this morning, Lawrence tied a record for the lowest temperatre set on this date — 55 degrees –which was last recorded in 1911, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We’ll only climb up today to about 80 degrees, with plenty of sunshine in store,” Schack said. “It’ll be very nice out there.”

This morning’s skies will be mostly sunny, with a few clouds developing in the afternoon.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to a low of 57, Schack said.

“It will be quite cool,” she said.

However, a warm-up begins on Tuesday, with the temperature climbing to a high of 84, under partly cloudy skies.

The warming trend continues on Wednesday. Wednesday morning’s temperature will start at 63 and the high will reach 89 degrees.

Scattered thunderstorms are in the forecast overnight Wednesday and into Thursday morning, Schack said. The National Weather Service says there’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 p.m. increasing to 40 percent Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
