Ethel Hess Seaman

? Services for Ethel Hess Seaman, 79, rural Waverly, were Wednesday at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial was at Glendale Cemetery, northeast of Burlington.

Mrs. Seaman died Monday, July 19, 2004, at her home.

She was born Nov. 26, 1924, north of LeRoy, the daughter of Walter R. and Elsie M. Wayde Gilmore. She grew up near LeRoy.

She attended Lauderdale rural grade school and graduated from LeRoy High School in 1943. She received a teaching certificate from Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and taught two terms at Wolf Creek rural school. She attended Lawrence Business College and worked as a clerk at M & L Grocery Store and as a bookkeeper at the Farmer’s Elevator, both in Burlington. She and her first husband owned and operated Hess’s Station, north of Burlington, for many years.

Mrs. Seaman was a member of Rock Creek Church of Christ, Ottawa.

She married John A. Hess on Jan. 28, 1951, in Burlington. He died Dec. 18, 1989. She married Bill Seaman on Nov. 21, 1992, in Burlington. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Brenda May, Ottawa, and Norma Simmons, Lawrence; two stepsons, Mark Seaman and Loren Seaman; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
