Second man arrested in connection with stabbing

Charges dropped against first man arrested

Lawrence police have arrested a second man — and dropped charges against the first man arrested –in connection with a stabbing early Wednesday morning in the parking lot of a local bar.

Investigators arrested the 19-year-old Lawrence resident Wednesday night and recovered the pocket knife they believe was used in the attack.

The 24-year-old victim was stabbed around midnight after he was involved in a fight outside of Bubba’s, 2228 Iowa St.

Police believe at least a half-dozen people were involved in the scuffle.

Meanwhile, prosecutors dropped charges today against 22-year-old Vidal P. Martinez, who was the first man arrested shortly after the stabbing.

Police had trouble communicating with both the victim and the suspects. Spanish-language interpreters had to be brought in to aid in the case.
