Police make arrest in connection with overnight stabbing

A stabbing early this morning outside a local bar has led to the arrest of a 22-year-old Lawrence man, according to Lawrence police.

Police allege the man stabbed an acquaintance with a pocketknife sometime around midnight outside Bubba’s, 2228 Iowa St. The victim, a 24-year-old Lawrence man, received treatment at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, but his injuries weren’t believed to be life-threatening, said Sgt. Dan Ward, a Lawrence Police spokesman.

Police found the suspect in the 2400 block of Alabama Street, where both he and the victim live in separate apartments.

Police used a Spanish-language interpreter to help communicate with the men.

The suspect has not yet been formally charged, but police are classifying the incident as an aggravated battery.
