Clarence E. Denton
Services for Clarence E. Denton, 71, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Southside Church of Christ. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rock Cemetery in Granite, Okla.
Mr. Denton died Friday, July 16, 2004, at his home.
He was born March 18, 1933, in Mangum, Okla., the son of Bernice E. and Effie Green Denton.
Mr. Denton went to Mangum schools, graduating from high school in May 1952. After graduation, he spent the summer in Pueblo, Colo., attending telegrapher school. He worked for Santa Fe Railway Express in Amarillo, Texas, until March 1953.
He entered the Army in November 1953. Upon completing basic training, he went to Aberdeen, Md., for training as an ammunition specialist. He then was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, where he stayed until ending his service in November 1955.
He worked for General Baking Co. in several locations in Oklahoma and ended his 20-year career as plant manager in Enid, Okla. He moved to Lawrence in 1978 and worked for Hallmark Cards for 15 years. He retired in 1994. He was a member of Southside Church of Christ.
Mr. Denton married Helen Dillahunty on May 28, 1953. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Martha Elford, McCord, Saskatchewan, and Mary Cushing, Downs; a son, David, Bristol, England; and nine grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Christian Family Services in Overland Park or to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn., sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
