KSU’s Webb won’t be tried in battery case

? Kansas State quarterback Allen Webb will not appear before a jury on battery charges for allegedly punching another student in Aggieville last summer.

Webb, 20, entered into a diversion agreement with the Riley County Attorney on Wednesday. The agreement requires Webb to write a letter to the Mercury apologizing for his involvement in the fight. He also will pay $317 in court costs and diversion fees, as well as restitution to the victim.

Specifically, Webb was ordered to perform 75 hours of community service, and to complete an anger management program within 90 days. He is to be in the Aggieville area only between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. — and only then in businesses that do not serve alcohol.

The fight happened in the early morning of June 27, 2003. James McGill and Daniel Davis, two other football players at the time, also were arrested for their roles in the incident. Both also took diversion agreements.

Webb currently is listed as K-State’s No. 2 quarterback, behind Dylan Meier. Webb is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound sophomore from Denver who began his college career at Indiana University.
