Chicago clips Milwaukee, 5-1

Cubs' Pryor leaves game in second inning because of discomfort in elbow

? Mark Prior’s dejected look said it all.

Less than two innings into just his eighth start of the season, he was out of the game and most likely out of the Chicago Cubs’ rotation again.

“I don’t know what I got going right now,” Prior said Thursday night after leaving in the second inning with discomfort in his right pitching elbow.

The Cubs rallied for a 4-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, but Prior’s status put a damper on any good feelings over the win.

“You can’t get any more worried than sick to your stomach. You just hope it’s nothing,” Cubs manager Dusty Baker said.

Prior is scheduled for an MRI today, the latest setback for him and the team he pitches for. Prior missed the first two months this season with a sore right Achilles’ tendon and tender elbow.

“It’s something I’ve been dealing with off and on since it happened in spring training,” Prior said.

“Hopefully we can get some answers this time on what it really is. To be honest, I can’t tell you where I’m at or where I’m going to be. … Trust me, I want to know what is going on more than anybody. Going in start after start not knowing what I was going to have — being up and being down — it’s been very frustrating.”

Derrek Lee homered in the second and hit an RBI double in a three-run sixth for the Cubs, who’ve been battling injuries all season.

“You’re just worried for him. You don’t want it to be serious,” Lee said. “You hope it’s something he can get over quick.”

Cardinals 7, Reds 2

Cubs pitcher Mark Pryor leaves the field with the team's trainer, Dave Groeschner, after experiencing discomfort in his pitching elbow in the second inning of Chicago's 4-1 win over Milwaukee at Wrigley Field.

Cincinnati — Albert Pujols and Scott Rolen each hit two-run homers.

Matt Morris (10-6) settled down after surrendering hits to the first two batters, and worked out of his own jam in the sixth.

Jesus Sanchez (0-2) allowed just two base runners, Edgar Renteria’s single in the first inning and a walk to Reggie Sanders in the second, until the fourth, when the Cardinals scored four runs.

Renteria, who went 4-for-5, led off the inning with a single and Pujols followed with his 23rd homer, a line drive to left.

Braves 8, Expos 0

Atlanta — Marcus Giles hit two doubles in his first game in two months and Jaret Wright won his fifth straight decision.

Giles, who broke his collarbone in a collision with center fielder Andruw Jones on May 15, went 2-for-5 to lead the Braves to their 13th win in 16 games.

Wright (7-5) allowed three hits in seven innings and allowed one runner to reach third. Wright combined with Kevin Gryboski and Antonio Alfonseca on the five-hitter.

Mets 3, Phillies 2 (11)

New York — Roberto Hernandez couldn’t handle Ty Wigginton’s bases-loaded comebacker in the 11th inning, allowing the winning run to score. Jose Parra (1-0) struck out two in a hitless 11th.

Bobby Abreu hit a two-run homer for the Phillies.

Mike Piazza drew a leadoff walk from Hernandez (1-3) in the 11th, Cliff Floyd hit a one-out single and Shane Spencer walked. Wigginton hit a one-hopper to Hernandez, who knocked it down with his hand. But he struggled to get a good grip as he picked the ball up, and he bounced a throw that glanced off catcher Mike Lieberthal as pinch-runner Vance Wilson slid home. Wigginton was credited with a base hit and an RBI.

Giants 7, Rockies 5

DENVER (AP) — Shawn Chacon hit J.T. Snow with a pitch with the bases loaded for the go-ahead run in San Francisco’s four-run ninth inning.

Colorado led 4-3 into the ninth behind five-plus solid innings from Jason Jennings, but Chacon (1-6) couldn’t hold it.

It was Chacon’s seventh blown save in 27 chances. Jim Brower (6-5) got one out in the eighth, and the Giants won their fourth straight. Scott Eyre got his first save.

The Rockies intentionally walked Barry Bonds three times.

Dodgers 4, Diamondbacks 3

PHOENIX (AP) — Shawn Green hit a grand slam in the eighth inning off Randy Choate, who took over after Randy Johnson struck out nine in seven scoreless innings.

Johnson, who also had an RBI single, was pulled after 108 pitches. Brian Bruney got two outs while allowing hits to Cesar Izturis and Paul Lo Duca. Then Choate (0-1) walked pinch-hitter Milton Bradley before Green’s seventh career grand slam.

Wilson Alvarez (4-3) won in relief and Eric Gagne struck out all four batters he faced for his 24th save.
