Not as hot, chance for rain overnight

A cold front that rolled in overnight is bringing cooler temperatures to the Lawrence area for the next couple of days, plus a chance for isolated showers for the next few nights.

Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist, said the cold front brought thunderstorms north and east of Lawrence, but the city received only cloudy skies and a reprieve from high temperatures. Tuesday’s heat index reading climbed to 110 degrees, as the high temperature for Lawrence reached 98.

“Today will be 11 degrees below that — 87 degrees,” Schack said.

Tonight’s skies will become cloudy, with a chance for isolated thunderstorms, she said. The National Weather Service predicts a 20 percent chance of showers overnight.

Thursday’s morning low will drop to 68, with a 20 percent chance of showers before 10 a.m. Schack said Thursday’s weather will be a repeat of today’s with the high also reaching 87 and a slight chance of rain.

Friday’s morning low will be 69, with the high climbing to 90. Schack said there’s another chance for isolated showers on Friday night and Saturday night.
