Raiders split pair in tourney

? The Lawrence Raiders capped an exhausting weekend of baseball by managing a split of two games at the North Platte Invitational.

The Raiders (25-13) topped Lincoln, Neb., 10-6 in the first game Sunday before falling to Omaha, Neb., 7-2.

“It was a hot, long weekend,” Raiders coach Reggie Christiansen said. “A lot of guys are banged up. We’re down to 11 or 12 kids now.”

Joe Crane pitched his way to victory in the first game and got support from fill-in leadoff hitter Brett Lisher, who socked two home runs.

Lisher hit first in the order in place of mainstay Ryan Engel, who sat out to nurse a sore ankle.

Tyler Blankenship added a pair of RBIs, and Taylor Martin and Grant Meisenheimer added two hits apiece to pace Lawrence.

The offense, though, was pretty much limited in the second game. The Raiders managed just three hits against Omaha, and Martin’s two-run single was the lone run producer of the game.

The Raiders returned home Sunday night, but will head today to play a doubleheader at Salina.

The first game will start at 6 p.m.
